Character
Name: Rin Tohsaka.
Series: Fate/Stay Night
Timeline: Unlimited Blade Works, True Ending.
Canon Resource Links: T-M Wiki to the rescue!
Personality:
Rin is often associated with the basic concept of the “tsundere”; a girl that cannot, by no known means, connect and accept her feelings towards a guy in any other way than a bitter, often irritated way. And boy, does she shine whenever Shirou accidentally makes her think her affections might be returned? Based on this, Rin usually reacts differently depending of who she is talking to; to the average person she is a calm, collected model student, an idol that’s both pursuit and revered by many classmates, with top notch grades and looks to booth. But, if she gets to interact with people she feels more at ease, Rin shows her true colors; she can be a bit foulmouthed, manipulative, rude and greatly different from the “girly” appearance most people associate her with, which can come as quite a shocker for the less canon savvy people.
At any rate, Rin is quite pride of herself and her heritage, usually making her name noted and letting them know just who they are dealing with. She’s very hardworking and dedicated nonetheless, and usually forces people to keep her own pace if they pretend to stick around. Her pride does get the best of her and hinders her at times though, and she’s the kind of person that would take great pains to convince about directly asking for help; any sign of weakness have to be eradicated in order to be superior, and even worse, letting her guard down might make other people realize she’s as vulnerable as anyone else, or so she thinks.
Rin has the very inconvenient tendency to note most things that goes wrong around her as her fault. If she were a better magi she would have been able to [insert random scenario] , or if she had paid more attention [insert here Shirou not being an idiot]; if she had made a greater effort [insert unrealistic ideas about Sakura] and so on. She just won’t take a break. Rin has spend the entirety of her childhood –sans very definite moments- training to be better than the last day, so every little remainder that she’s still human and thus imperfect bothers her in varying degrees, which is not always bad, but it fuels her belief that she has to take responsibility, even if that involves getting hurt, or worse, hurting others- or sacrificing herself. In this matter she is very harsh with herself about Sakura, who she was forced to “forget” when they were little, despite of how much she loved –and loves- her sister, to the point she kept on ignoring her for more than a decade; even more, being Unlimited Blade Works the route she is coming from, Rin hasn’t dealt with Sakura to the extent she does on other route, Heaven’s Feel, so even though she suffers greatly every time she and Sakura crosses paths she still keeps quiet, and the moment when they will finally cut the chase –or at least Rin- is yet to come, and it won’t be pretty.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
☺ Strategist: She has practically trained her whole life to be able to think her way out of situations, play several steps ahead others and keep her cool even when everything seems to be lost. She proves her value on every route of the visual novel, where she is usually outclassed, but nonetheless poses a threat.
☺ Reliable: Of the “you will be safe but you won’t be calm” type, whatever that means. Yes she can make sure you will live on, but you can be damn sure she won’t make your life any easy. And isn’t that what many need anyway?
☺ Occult: She knows a lot about magic and elements, and what not. This doesn’t really matter much in a world where she is basically powerless, but still…knowing about elements and how they interact must come in handy at some point. Probably.
☺ Talk the talk, walk the walk: Has the brains and the looks, not to mention the superb athletic condition. All of this is usually overshadowed by her personality, but she’s still a good looking, brilliant girl who can probably best your average guy on a stamina contest.
☻Technology how do you eat that: No, seriously, it’s mostly used as a running gag but Rin’s knowledge of technology is very limited due to a life of preserving the ways of the magi, which mainly involve relying on magic means to do most of the things that modern machines currently do. So computers, cellphones, dvd recorders, and everything remotely advanced is pretty much new, virgin territory for her. Read: it she gets really annoyed at trying to figure how those things work.
☻ Won’t ask for help: This invariably leads her to screw up, badly. People would have an easier time just forcing their help on her than waiting for Rin to man up and accept she can’t do everything on her own…but yeah, fat chance. Add to that the worse she screws up the less she wants to ask for help and you have a recipe for doom on the works.
☻ Feelings? You idiot! : She excels at the ways of the Tsundere, and will let any unsuspecting person naïve enough to think she has any sort of honest connection with her emotions taste the pain of trying to make a fool out of her. Literally nothing with her is easy, and it takes a while for her to open a bit to people, which in most cases makes things easier to handle for a while, only to crash in the most spectacular ways later on. A piece of work, this one.

[ The moment the feed starts, the camera is pointing at the far horizon. It’s a nice sunset, with orange colored skies and the sun slowly sinking below some mountains far ahead… ]
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?
[ Well, there goes the mood. The PokeConnect is quickly retrieved, but it points erratically at everything around whoever is holding it. Trees, the ground, that awesome sunset, a couple of legs, back to the sunset and finally to a particularly angry, and terribly confused girl with piercing blue eyes. ]
Hello, hello? IS THIS THING ON??
[ She fiddles with the device, turning the video and audio on and off a couple of times before setting it back like it was originally. It better be working! ]
I don’t know what this is about, but if whoever you are have any value over your life you will give me the answers I seek immediately, lets you want to suffer extreme punishment fit of those that dare to mistreat a member of the Tohsaka family.
Well? Speak! I don’t have all the time of the world.
[ Yes, this is going to go well. ]
Third Person Sample:
Well, that hadn’t gone as planned.
Sitting on the street, Rin Tohsaka’s frown deepened as she looked at the few things she had been thrown out of the house she had woken up moments earlier. The clothes themselves weren’t entirely bad, but she could use more of them, not to mention food and other things she would surely need on her ‘journey’; a journey she hadn’t had the slightest intention to go through moments ago, but that now seemed like the only viable way to find out what the heck had just happened to her life.
Note to self: next time you try to overtake the house you have suddenly waken up make sure your magic abilities remain intact. It had been…embarrassing, to say the least, but when no gandr came out of her finger Rin knew she was about starting to look less cooler and more like a retard. Getting kicked out, as nicely handed as it had been by the lady that insisted they were related, had been a low blow to her pride, and therefore she hadn’t been able to more than squatting at the door and sulk for a while. To think somebody like her would end up in such situation! She had just saved Fuyuki city! Destroyed the Grail! Made peace with Archer! She was this close to get the boy but noooo, life had decided to make an act of class and apparently pushed her over the edge to some sort of bizarre, ever sunny reality where the Tohsaka magic –or any magic, she was starting to fear- was as useless as they come.
“But that won’t stop me!”
The sudden yell managed to startle more than one passerby, and Rin jumped to her feet, quickly pulling the backpack over a shoulder and resting her hands on her hips, a defiant air on her eyes as she made her mind. Enough dillydallying, she had to assess the situation and find out the whereabouts of this new place. She had seen creatures, Pokemon they called them, but so far she had no idea of why those creatures were around or what use could she find them. Rummaging on her backpack had produced something that a kid identified as a Pokeball, and the claims that something was inside; one of those critters that was to follow her orders. While the perspective of having a lackey to do her bidding was tempting, Rin knew too little about the new world to risk it so soon; she could always call forth the creature later. For now, she had to find a way to reach out and gather intel.
It would take her about an hour to finally manage to send a proper message with the PokeConnect. Progress!
